The Formula S represents BYD's strategic move to compete with leading electric sedans in the Chinese market. The vehicle launches in five variants: three sedan models and two grand touring versions, priced between 189,900 yuan and 239,900 yuan ($28,000 to $35,000).
The base rear-wheel drive sedan begins at 189,900 yuan and delivers up to 750 kilometers of CLTC-rated range, while the extended-range version reaches 900 kilometers. The all-wheel drive variant starts at 229,900 yuan with a 730-kilometer range.
All variants employ BYD's second-generation Blade Batteries and Flash Charging system. This technology enables 10-to-70-percent charging in 5 minutes, and reaches 97 percent capacity in 9 minutes. The competitive pricing undercuts the Tesla Model 3, which starts at 235,500 yuan in China.
The sedan features premium interior appointments including 128-color wraparound ambient lighting, integrated sports seating, a zero-gravity front passenger seat, a 26-inch AR head-up display, and a 6.9-liter smart refrigerator. At 5,060 millimeters long and 1,967 millimeters wide, it exceeds the Model 3 in dimensions.
The Formula S incorporates BYD's God's Eye B driver assistance system, providing high-speed autonomous navigation and comprehensive intelligent parking capabilities. The vehicle offers a choice between DiSus-A and DiSus-M intelligent body control systems, described as delivering "one car, two personalities" through different suspension configurations and handling characteristics.
