BYD Tests New Ti 6 SUV with Defender-Inspired Design
BYD has begun testing a new Titanium 6 SUV in China, positioned as a smaller, more affordable alternative to the Titanium 7. The vehicle adopts a rugged, boxy design similar to the Land Rover Defender, with the first disguised test images emerging on 8 September 2026.
Test images posted on Chinese automotive platform Autohome have revealed the first glimpse of BYD's new Titanium 6 SUV. The vehicle maintains the distinctive angular design characteristic of the Land Rover Defender, preserving bold lines and a rectangular profile that defines the Titanium lineup.
The Titanium 6 will become the fourth model in Fang Cheng Bao's Titanium range, following the Titanium 3, Titanium 7, and Titanium 9. The SUV is expected to accommodate five passengers, contrasting with the Titanium 7's seven-seat configuration. In the test images, the prototype remains heavily disguised, though new details are visible including redesigned headlights and a roof-mounted LiDAR unit.
While BYD has not officially announced the model, reports indicate a starting price near 150,000 yuan (approximately USD 22,000), positioned below the Titanium 7 at 179,800 yuan. The testing phase represents BYD's continued expansion in the new-energy SUV segment. The Titanium 6 is anticipated to offer both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, mirroring the dual propulsion strategy available with the Titanium 7 in China's market. Additional specifications and official details remain pending BYD's formal announcement.
