Tesla announced the launch of the Model Y Performance, marking the fifth and most expensive variant in the lineup across China. The new version features distinctive styling including aerodynamic front and rear fascias, a carbon-fiber spoiler, standard 21-inch Arachnid 2.0 wheels, and red brake calipers. The five-seat layout incorporates sport seats with power-adjustable thigh supports designed for driving performance.
The high-performance variant supports rapid charging up to 250 kilowatts, delivering approximately 250 kilometers of range in 15 minutes. Technical specifications include a 78.4-kWh battery pack with front and rear motors rated at 176 kW and 291 kW respectively. The vehicle filing had previously appeared in China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology documentation dating to July 2026.
The launch occurs as Model Y sales face mounting headwinds in China. August 2026 deliveries declined 25.76 percent year-over-year, marking the third consecutive month of decline and an acceleration from July's 18.23 percent drop. Model Y deliveries represent over 70 percent of Tesla's total deliveries in China throughout 2026. Tesla is simultaneously offering inventory discounts, with customers receiving 10,000 yuan reductions on eligible inventory vehicles delivered before September 30.
